The 64th Cannes Film Festival Opened on May 11 |

Tehran, May 14, 2011: The 64th Cannes film festival has kicked off with world-renowned Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci receiving an honorary Palm d+Or.
Well versed in international cinema, Bertolucci received the award at the festival+s opening ceremony on May 11. His 1970 film The Conformist"was scheduled to go on screen on Thursday in a restored print.
Woody Allen+s latest film, Midnight in Paris, opened the festival on May 12, presstv.com reported.
Allen+s romantic comedy follows a writer who goes back in time to 1920s Paris.
“In this movie I wanted to present a new image of Paris, would be totally different from the previous ones, to show it very subjectively, rather than realistically,†Allen said about his movie.
In an interview, Allen said he did not consider himself an artist but aspired to be one.
"I don+t have the depth or substance or the gift. If you think of Kurosawa, Bergman, or Fellini, it is clear that I+m not one. But I could write about the historical figures in Midnight in Paris easily in an amusing way because I+m not trying to make them deep or profound characters."
Rachel McAdams, Adrian Brody, Owen Wilson and Carla Bruni, the wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, appear in Allen+s movie.
Meanwhile, UK documentary Unlawful Killing, which is about Princess Diana+s death, was the focus of attention for the media on Friday.
The film sets out to prove a cover-up by the establishment over the death of Princess Diana, her partner Dodi al-Fayed and the car+s driver Henri Paul in Paris in 1997.
Directed by Keith Allen and financially supported by Mohamed al-Fayed, father of Dodi, the film went on the screen at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival on Friday.
Robert Deniro, who has starred in two Palme d+Or winners Taxi Driver and The Mission, is heading the jury this year. Other jury members are Jude Law, Olivier Assayas, Johnnie To, Uma Thurman, Linn Ullmann (late Swedish director Ingmar Bergman+s daughter), Martina Gusman, Nansun Shi and Mhamat Saleh Haroun.
The festival will run until May 21.
