10/26/2011 6th Tehran Contemporary Sculpture Biennial Opens
|
|
Tehran, Oct 26, 2011: The 6th Tehran Contemporary Sculpture Biennial was inaugurated at Tehran+s Niavaran Cultural Center on Monday.
The opening ceremony began with a tribute paid to the late sculptor Hamidollah Rezaii (1951-2010) who was an active member of the biennial in past editions.
Iranian Office for Visual Arts Director Mahmud Shaluii made the opening speech saying that the 6th biennial was not held at its usual time since it was expected to receive greater attention.
“Today, the society needs to provide the grounds for an influential presence of the art of sculpture and we appreciate that the Association of Iranian Sculptors has resumed the biennial this year once again,†Shaluii said.
He expressed hope that the seminars and side section programs would help this biennial reach great achievement this year.
“A supervising council on the design and installation of sculpture across the city has been established to help introduce sculptors to the people more than before,†he added.
Director of the Association of Iranian Sculptors Mansur Azari next explained that the biennial is being held after four years, which is good news for the artists.
The biennial is displaying 67 works by 67 sculptors selected out of the 626 works submitted to the secretariat of the biennial.
Hamid Suri, Morteza Nematollahi, Kurosh Golnar and Rima Eslam-Maslak are among the members of the board of selection.
