Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts to exhibit Pop, Op artworks

The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts is set to mount an exhibition of works by international practitioners of Pop art and Op art movements.
The event will display works from the museum’s collection of western art along with works of a group of contemporary Mexican artists created with printmaking techniques.
Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the mid 1950s and included imagery from popular culture such as advertising and news.
Andy Warhol, Richard Hamilton, Jim Dine and Jasper Johns are among notable Pop artists.
Op art, also known as optical art, is a style of visual art that makes use of optical illusions. Op art works are abstract and give viewers the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.
Op art is best known through the works of Victor Vasarely, Arnold Alfred Schmidt and Josef Albers.
The Pop and Op art exhibition of Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts will be opened on May 16, 2012.
