Tehran, May 21, 2011: Iranian animation Halftone has been awarded at the 8th edition of Portugal+s Black & White Audiovisual Festival held at the Catholic University - Porto.
Directed by Hamideh Javadi, the six-minute production received the Best Animation Video award of the event, which ran from May 11 to 14, 2011, in the city of Porto, presstv.com reported.
Halftone recounts the story of a violinist who tries to muffle all sounds around him so that he can hear his own musical instrument.
Javadi+s work has also been screened at the Istanbul International Short Film Festival in Turkey, the Tehran International Short Film Festival in Iran and the La.Meko Filmfestival in Landau, Germany.
The Black & White Audiovisual Festival granted its Best Experimental Video award to The Homogenics by Gerard Freixes and Best Music Video award to Tiago Soares+s Roncos do Diabo.
Andre Guiomar+s Piton won this year+s B&W Prize and Best Documentary Video award, while the Best Fiction Video award went to Negative by Yoav Hornung.
Chris Chafe (USA), Leonor Silveira (Portugal), Pib (France) and Sahra Kunz (Portugal) judged this year+s competing productions.
The eighth Black & White Audiovisual Festival screened 30 videos, 8 photographic sequences and 8 audio works from 13 countries including Germany, Georgia, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain.
The annual festival only accepts black and white entries in an attempt to educate viewers to the specificity of black and white which tends to be regarded as uninteresting.
