Tehran, May 18, 2011: Turkey will hold the 12th Istanbul Biennial, showcasing innovative and politically outspoken works to explore the complex relationship between art and politics.
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, the event will run from September 17 to November 13, 2011, presenting five group shows and 45 solo presentations by both established and emerging artists.
Prominent Cuban-American artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres is one of the artists whose works will be displayed during the event along with other artists who will present their creations on different themes, Artdaily.com reported.
The group shows will decide the central themes of the exhibition and the solo shows will be linked to the subjects of the group shows pushing the themes decidedly further and exploring the broader issues introduced by the group exhibitions.
The Biennial will be held in a space conceived by Tokyo-based architect Ryue Nishizawa of Sejima and Nishizawa and Associates (SANAA) who won the prestigious 2010 Pritzker Prize.
The graphic design will be developed in collaboration with Jon Sueda of Stripe, San Francisco.
