Tehran, July 10, 2011: The Iranian Artists Forum has mounted an exhibition of photos by Iranian photojournalist Afshin Valinejad taken after Japan+s recent tsunami crisis.
Tsunami+s Footprint features a selection of 20 photos depicting the aftermath of the disastrous March 11 earthquake, Mehr News Agency reported.
The March quake and tsunami, Japan+s worst crisis since World War II, demolished homes and ruined towns along the country+s northeastern coast, leaving 20,000 dead or missing.
Waves from the tsunami shut down back-up generators at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, disabling reactor cooling systems and leading to meltdowns, explosions and radiation leaks.
Only 19 of Japan+s 54 reactors are currently working and a lot more are expected to shut down for regular checks, forcing people to save power.
Tsunami+s Footprint kicked off with director of the Iranian Artists Forum Majid Sarsangi and Japanese Chargé d+affaires in Tehran Nozomu Takaoka attending the opening ceremony.
Valinejad worked at the Persian section of NHK Radio Japan for eight years. He is now a freelance photojournalist and helped the Asian country+s tsunami victims as a volunteer worker after the catastrophic event.
“I+ve always believed that when you feel something in your heart and you want to do it, you don+t need any pre-meditated plans,†he said.
The exhibition will be held until July 22, 2011 in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
