Tehran, July 23, 2011: Swiss conductor Emmanuel Siffert says he is ready to serve as the guest conductor of Iran+s recently established Roudaki Symphony Orchestra.
Tehran, July 23, 2011: Swiss conductor Emmanuel Siffert says he is ready to serve as the guest conductor of Iran+s recently established Roudaki Symphony Orchestra.
“Siffert is a freelance conductor who sent a proposal to collaborate with the orchestra after getting some information on the internet,†Roudaki Symphony Orchestra director Mohammad Haqgou told Mehr News Agency.
The orchestra, which was established by the non-governmental Roudaki Foundation in February 2011, had its first public performance at Tehran+s Vahdat Hall in June.
Haqgou said the orchestra+s charter does not let a permanent conductor, so guest conductors are invited to help promote the orchestra.
“We are willing to cooperate with Siffert and have told him that the orchestra mostly performs Iranian compositions,†he added.
Siffert was the Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Quito, Ecuador for three seasons, as well as the European Chamber Opera and the Orchestra Sinfonica Aosta.
He regularly works with the Swiss Chamber Orchestra and is currently working as a freelance conductor of music for orchestra, opera and ballet, organizing seminars and opera courses for singers.
Siffert learned conducting under Horst Stein, Ralf Weikert, Joma Panula and Carlo Maria Giulini. He won the Schweizerischen Tonkunstlenverein conducting prize in 1993 and 1995.
The Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Rundfunksinfonieorchester Saarbrucken, Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of South Africa, Slowenische Philharmonie and Volgograd Philharmonic Orchestra are among the orchestra Siffert has conducted so far.
