Canadian Children+s Publisher to Visit Iran

Tehran, August 23, 2011: Canadian publisher and author Patricia Aldana is scheduled to visit Iran for eight days in September.
he founder of Groundwood Books, a prominent Canadian children+s publishing company, will arrive in Tehran on September 2. She has been invited by the Children+s Book Council of Iran (CBCI).
She will attend a meeting at CBCI+s House of Librarians for the Promotion of Reading among Children and Young People on September 3 to deliver a speech on the promotion of reading, CBCI Director Nushafarin Ansari told Mehr News Agency on Sunday.
“Ms. Aldana will also discuss the criteria her company uses to select books for publishing at the CBC the following evening,†she added.
The former president of the International Board on Books for Young People will also give lectures during other meetings at several cultural institutions in Tehran and will pay a visit to the Children+s Museum of the Golestan Palace in downtown Tehran.
Aldana will spend two days visiting Isfahan, the central Iranian city that is home to many historical monuments and traditional Iranian handicrafts.
Aldana is author of “Under the Spell of the Moon†on children+s book illustration and “Jade and Ironâ€, an anthology of stories of the experiences and culture of Latin Americans.
Her company published the English version of “Good Night, Commander†by Iranian writer Ahmad Akbarpur that was published in Toronto in 2010.
Aldana has most recently has been named the 2011 recipient of the Ontario Library Association Les Fowlie Intellectual Freedom Award for her work in defending the rights of library patrons to full access to information.
Aldana is a member of the Order of Canada, one of the country+s highest civilian honors. It was established in 1967, during Canada+s centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.
