Bojnurd (Bojnord) in North Khorasan Province (Khorasan-e Shomali) is about 701 km. from Tehran and is located in the plains enjoying a mild and mountainous weather. This city was originally called "Bijan Gerd". Gerd meaning city and Bojnurd means Bijans city. The ancient city was situated on a hill northwest of the present city of Bojnurd, known as Sareban Mahaleh. The ethnic composition of Bojnurd comprises of Turk and Kurd tribes.
