Naqsh-e Rustam is an ancient necropolis, located in the village of Zangi-Abad, to the north of the city of Marvdasht in Fars province. This ancient site which is in a 6 km distance from Persepolis (Takht-e Jamshid), has been a home to ancient Iranian rock reliefs from Elamite, Achaemenid, and Sassanid periods. It lies a few hundred meters from Naqsh-e Rajab, with four further rock reliefs, three of them celebrating kings and one a high priest.
A Safavid era (1501–1736) caravanserai in the north-central city of Semnan was finally handed over to the city’s municipality after being used as a prison for over 40 years.

The 14th anniversary of inscribing the ancient site of Bisotun on the UNESCO World Heritage list will be celebrated during a festival which will be held online in the western province of Kermanshah on Friday.
A team of international archaeologists and restorers who are affiliated with the Archaeology Without Borders foundation has commenced the second season of its activity in Iran’s UNESCO-tagged Persepolis, which was once the ceremonial capital of the mighty Achaemenid Empire.
Persian architecture has a long and complex history. The Elamite, Achaemenian, Hellenistic, and other pre-Islamic dynasties left striking stone testaments to their greatness, such as Choqa Zanbil and Persepolis both designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1979.
