The city of Ardakan is located in the north of YAZD province. That is to the north and west of Esfahan province. To the south is the township of Yazd and to the east is the province of Khorassan. Ardakan is the largest city of Yazd province. Ardakan is located on the road between Tehran and Bandar Abbas . The name of Ardakan is combination of two terms, "Ard" which means holy and "Kan" means mine or place. In past, Ardakan was located in a place known as Zardak, and parts of its walls still remain.
