Tehran Municipality's tourism office has launched weekly sightseeing tours in walking and biking modes. The tours operate Thursdays free of charge. The plan is in line with TM's efforts to curb air pollution and promote tourism in the metropolis.
Those interested can choose to surf the city on foot or join the biking group. Experienced tour guides accompany the teams. According to the TM, the guides are adept in explaining the capital’s history.
The first tour was in Tehran District 12 to the southwest of the capital on April 18, the Persian-language Donya-e-Eqtesad reported. Head of the TM tourism office, Mehdi Seif, said the next round will be on April 25. Tourists will surf the historical sites in District 11 in the central-south part of the city.
The timings are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. free of charge. "If the tours are welcomed by the people, it will become a permanent fixture of the capital covering more destinations," he added. Further information is available on the website visit.tehran.ir. According to Seif, the plan is inspired by the "bus tour scheme" currently underway in Tehran. The bus tour runs Fridays enabling the people to take short trips around the city and visit historical sites and key tourist areas.
